Short answer: The right Fresha alternative depends on how your shop fills its chairs. Walk-in-heavy barbershops should pick a system with a live queue next to bookings, such as Meikigo or Barbs. Booking-first shops and solo barbers can stay on per-staff booking apps like Booksy or SimplyBook.me. Shops that mainly want a till can look at StoreHub or TunaiPro. Square Appointments is not available in Malaysia.
Disclosure: we make Meikigo. We have tried to describe every option fairly, including when Meikigo is the wrong fit. Prices were checked on 27 October 2026. Always confirm with the vendor.
Why do Malaysian barbershops look for a Fresha alternative?
Fresha is a good booking app and marketplace. Shop owners usually start looking elsewhere for one of three reasons:
- Walk-ins. Many Malaysian barbershops are still mostly walk-in. A booking calendar does not tell a walk-in how long they will wait, and it does not stop a walk-in from taking a booked customer's chair.
- Per-staff pricing. Fresha's Team plan is RM45 per bookable team member per month. Each new barber adds to the bill.
- Customers won't download an app. Some regulars just want to walk in or message the shop on WhatsApp.
If none of these apply to you, Fresha may already be the right choice.

Which alternative fits which kind of shop?
Mostly walk-ins, some bookings
You need a queue, not just a calendar. Look for a single board where walk-ins and bookings sit together, and where a customer can see how many people are ahead of them.
- Meikigo puts walk-ins and bookings on one counter tablet, with a column per barber. Customers scan the shop's QR code to join the queue or book in their browser, with no app to download. They can pick a barber or choose "any barber".
- Barbs also targets walk-in barbershops and has a free plan for solo barbers.
Mostly bookings, few walk-ins
A booking-first app works well here. Booksy suits barbers who build a personal following. SimplyBook.me is fine for very small, booking-only setups. Fresha itself stays a good option if you want its marketplace to send you new clients. Meikigo is not a marketplace.
Mainly a till, bookings are secondary
General POS systems such as StoreHub or TunaiPro are strong at the counter and on retail stock. Check how they handle a walk-in queue and barber commissions before you switch. Those are usually where general POS tools are weakest for barbershops.
How much does each option cost for a 3-barber shop?
For three barbers on monthly billing:
- Fresha Team: 3 × RM45 = RM135/mo, excluding tax and add-ons
- Meikigo Starter: RM109/mo, flat up to 5 barbers
- Per-staff tools: the bill rises with every barber you hire
For one or two barbers, a per-staff app is often cheaper than a flat plan. We worked through the numbers in per-staff vs flat-fee software.
What should you check before switching?
- Walk-in handling: can walk-ins and bookings share one live board?
- Customer friction: do customers have to download an app?
- Barber pay: does it calculate commission per barber, or will you still do it in a spreadsheet?
- Payment fees: compare card and e-payment fees separately from the subscription.
- Total monthly cost at your next team size, not only your current one.
- Trial: test it for a real busy weekend before you commit.
Where Meikigo is not the right fit
- You rely on a marketplace to bring in new customers. Meikigo does not list your shop in a customer app.
- You are a solo barber on a tight budget. A per-staff plan or a free tier will cost less.
- You need it to work offline. Meikigo has no offline mode.
Try Meikigo
There is a 14-day trial with Plus-level features. No card and no contract. Plans start at RM109 a month. See pricing or read the full Meikigo vs Fresha comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fresha free in Malaysia?
No. As of October 2026 Fresha's Malaysia pricing page lists an Independent plan at RM67.95 a month for one person and a Team plan at RM45 a month per bookable team member. There is a 7-day trial, not a free plan.
Is Square Appointments available in Malaysia?
No. Square does not process payments in Malaysia, so Square Appointments is not a practical option for Malaysian shops.
What is the cheapest barbershop booking software in Malaysia?
For a solo barber, per-staff tools and free tiers (such as SimplyBook.me's limited free plan) are usually cheapest. From about three barbers, a flat monthly price per outlet usually costs less than paying per staff member.
Which Fresha alternative is best for walk-ins?
Pick a system with a live walk-in queue that sits on the same board as bookings, so a booked customer and a walk-in never compete for the same chair. Booking-first apps tend to treat walk-ins as an afterthought.
